 J.W. BENSON' HUNTER POCKET WATCH - L1894

A superb silver J.W. Benson half hunter pocket watch, with a 'Keyless Ludgate' lever movement, in good condition and good working order, keeping good time, sold with original J.W. Benson case.

The silver case is in excellent condition,   when the crown is pressed it flicks open. The case is hallmarked for London 1894/5, initials 'J.W.B' (for James William Benson), and is numbered '64K'. The front cover is marked with blue enamelled numerals, the V, VI and VII numerals have some enamel wear. The front and rear covers have engine turning decoration and the rear cover has a blank central cartouche. The central small glass crystal in the front cover has a few minor scuff marks near the centre.

The case is 50mm overall diameter, ignoring the stem, and the watch weighs 139g.

The enamel dial is in excellent condition, no chips or hairlines, and is signed 'J.W. Benson, London'. The acrylic crystal over the dial is in excellent condition.

The jewelled lever movement is in excellent condition and good working order, keeping good time. It is signed 'THE KEYLESS LUDGATE WATCH, J.W. Benson, PATENT No 4658, BEST LONDON MAKE, BY WARRANT TO H.M. THE QUEEN, LUDGATE HILL, LONDON' and is numbered '201734'. The movement is stem wind and pin set which work fine.

The 'JW Benson' signed red coloured case is in good condition, hinge good and catch works well.
