OLD VINTAGE ROLEX ROYAL BLACK DIALWRIST WATCH STAINLESS STEEL CIRCA 1950s

Having a model number of 6044 this Midi sized gents, ladies or youths Rolex watch is in lovely overall condition as can be seen from the pictures. It has obviously been carefully looked after during its life and belies its 58 years age.

The Oyster Matt White dial is nicely complimented by the polished gilt figures, hour markers and hands creating a very striking appearance when worn. The dial has just been professionally restored to its original condition. New luminous infill has been applied to the dial and hands. It really does look superb and it is unusual in that the Arabic numerals 2, 4, 8 and 10 are denoted on the chapter ring. Normally it is the 6 and 12 or 3, 6, 9 and 12.

The case has been restored to the correct finish and fitted with a new strap as detailed below. It has of course also had a new case back seal fitted.

The crown as pictured is the original ROLEX “PHANTOM” SUPER OYSTER crown . So many of these older Oyster Royals of this age have had a new modern threaded case tube fitted and the crown replaced with the modern twin-lock screw down crown. This is because of the rarity of the Phantom crown but that is NOT so with this watch as it is original.

It has the Rolex Cal: 710 manually wound and set 15 Rubies movement fitted with central sweeping second's hand. It is running well and keeping very good time.

The two piece fixed bezel case measures 34.00mm including crown and 38.00mm lug to lug and is just 8.00mm thick. It is brushed satin to the top with mirror polished sides and fixed bezel. I can not find a nasty mark on it anywhere although there is the slightest evidence it has been worn. The case serial number of 720110 dates this watch to c1951.

An unusual feature of the case is that the spring bar holes are only in the case lugs on the opposite side of the case to the crown.

Another unusual feature is that the case is a lot thinner in comparison to the 3 piece case with removable bezel. I have tried to show this feature against a 1952 3 piece case as pictured.
